Dazzling Aruba Honeymoon Hack: Oranje”glad” its Free

Deciding if a Cheap Aruba Honeymoon Hack is Right for Us?

Aruba is located at the far south of the Caribbean, just north of Venezuela.  A constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the island of just over 100,000 residents with picturesque beaches make this tropical destination a hot spot for tourists from the United States.

The island features a windblown national park of volcanic crags and raging waves; a revitalizing town lined with mosaics and murals; and an offshore shipwreck considered one of the best wreck dives in the world.

Aruba (AUA) is well served by US airlines.  A valid U.S. passport is required for entry to Aruba.

Hacking the Flights

There are multiple options for hacking the flights between the US and Aruba (AUA). The airport is served from points across the United States. So the best option may be on an airline or using an airline currency listed below. This example will use American Airlines due to their strong service of the Caribbean through Miami and Dallas Fort Worth should make for convenient connections for most of the US.

American Airlines award chart lists MileSAAver Award space between the United States and Mexico at 30,000 points roundtrip.  With the Barclaycard American AAdvantage Red card after making your first purchase, $99 annual fee.  That will provide enough points to book two roundtrip flights from the US to Aruba.

Southwest Airlines is a terrific transfer option for Chase points to get you are your partner to Cabo. Southwest points are a terrific option since those miles are so easy to use and bags are free.

Southwest has no blackout dates and the award tickets are based on how much the flights cost, so as long at the cost for both tickets is below the 40,000 points, your airfare will be “free”.

International flights apply a number of US and international airport taxes that increase the cost of these bookings and utilizing miles does not eliminate these taxes.  My test bookings came up with around $103 in taxes per person.  Don’t worry, we are paying these taxes with your Capital One Venture card with the ability to “erase” them later.
